The Balcony Garden This Year
I didn’t grow many things up on the balcony this year; I usually have pots ringed all around the balcony. But time was an issue this year with the bookstore an stuff. I grew peppers, okra, and tomatoes on the balcony, and we even had a few pots of blackberries growing.

More Compost Tomato Plants
I have so many volunteer tomato plants growing in the compost still it’s unreal. My son S-bop picked out some and put them in the garden with the other tomato plants.
It’s hard to believe that in a month the tomato plants will be as high as the stakes and bearing fruit! I can’t wait, garden [...]
Cherry Tomatoes May
When my daughter was at the thrift shop the other day someone dropped off a bunch of tomato plants, offering them to anyone! They said they had too many. Nice!

Final Call on Tomatoes 2007 & Compost Lay-in
We finally got all the tomato plants pulled!! The kids were a huge help with pulling the stakes, picking the tomatoes, digging trenches, and laying in the compost. I told them it would only take 30 minutes but it ended up taking a [...]
I Pulled the Tomatoes…Well, Half of Them
I pulled half of my tomato plants today, as it is finally getting cold here in Northeast Ohio. I had lots of baby tomatoes and some beefsteak tomatoes in varying stages of ripeness. I will set the green ones in the window to ripen. They won’t taste as good as [...]
I Still Have Tomatoes!
As you can see the plants are dying though. Photos were taken November 3rd, I just picked all the ripe tomatoes and will pull the plants this afternoon if I have time. I ended up with over 50 baby tomatoes from this morning’s harvest.
Here are shots of a few big ones, [...]
Cherry Tomatoes October 2007
Some lovely tomatoes! I planted sooooo many tomato plants. I pick almost daily and every day there are even more coming ripe, and the plants are STILL flowering, still putting out blooms! The cherry tomato plants are so tall and heavy many of them wore down their stakes.
I think next year [...]
Baby Acorn Squash & Ripening Tomatoes October 2007
A baby acorn squash and 2 big tomatoes in various stages of ripening.
You know the carrots I pulled from my garden the other day? I put the tops in old wines bottles filled with water. They’ll stay fresh for a week or so. I think they are so pretty!

Tomatoes & Turnip Greens September 2007
Some cherry tomatoes and turnip greens. I have yet to dig up the turnips because I don’t really like turnips; I just plant a bunch each year because I ADORE turnip greens. I need to get at them soon though.
This is why I wasn’t worried about having to re-start my tomatoes in early summer [...]
August Late Tomatoes 2007
My late start tomatoes. Remember my first batch of tomatoes died in a frost? The second starts are coming along nicely. I did not pick these, we had a storm which knocked down a big plant with lot of tomatoes on it. These fell off when I was trying to save it.

Tomatoes, Finally & Kids in the Corn
I finally have tomatoes! I had a late start because as you may recall my first batch of tomatoes died in a frost, so I had to re-start them. I am excited! These are the cherry/fireball tomatoes and I have them all over now.
My sons are also excited at the tomatoes as well as [...]
Early June Garden 2007
This is from the first weekend in June. The garden is coming along ok even though the weather has been iffy. I only have a little spinach left. I’m going to keep these plants in until the weather gets too hot for them.
Here are some green beans and right in front some squash. I am [...]
Getting Started on Tomatoes – Again
I can’t believe how I’ve been dragging on getting my tomatoes started. Luckily they grow very fast in hot weather, so it’s not like I’m not going to be able to get a nice crop or anything. I sowed a bunch in late February indoors in newspaper pots, then moved them to the front porch [...]
Summer Garden Plan
In the ground I am doing a 3 Sisters garden (corn, beans, and squash) and everything else I am growing in 5-10 gallon containers or bigger on my balcony. This is because we have a lot of deer and other assorted fauna coming in and out of the yard and they will eat up all [...]
