Preparing the Three Sisters
I’ve already got corn, beans, and squash growing separately but decided to start some more together. This is called a 3 sisters garden. These types of plants grown very well together and benefit each other.
The seeds I’m using are all from last year’s crops. They are red bean, yellow corn, and acorn squash.

Why Did My Corn Grow Poorly?
The corn fared poorly this year, but I figued out it was because I grew carrots in between each row. Duh!! the carrots got all the nutrients. oh well, live and learn, right?

Garden Corn Still In Pots
Garden Corn June 8th 2008Originally uploaded by .Mercury
Planned to spend the day relaxing, no work, just getting everything in the garden today. But it’s so HOT! After the winter we had, I am not complaining though. Maybe by evening it will cool down and I can get these in the ground.

Dried Corn Cob November 2007
One of the sweet corn cobs I dried out so I can use the kernels for next year’s planting. It’s not quite ready to pull the kernels off, but soon. I forgot to save seeds from the popcorn I planted, so next year’s will be from store bought popcorn again.

Garden Grossness 2007 – Corn Smut
I had no idea what this was on one of my corn plants. It was at first hard and shiny and smooth to the touch. We thought at first it was some sort of cocoon. I pulled the entire plant and set it under a tree far from the garden. After a few days it [...]
Popcorn August 2007
This is an ear of corn grown from a popcorn kernel. Note that it is longer than the sweet yellow corn we grew. It has a lighter taste as well and the kernels were much smaller. It was good though. I liked the spiral shape of it.

September Corn
Late sweet corn we picked yesterday. It was so delicious! To cook it we get the water boiling and drop it in as soon as it is picked and shucked. You can’t beat the taste of fresh corn; you can taste the sunlight in it!

Tomatoes, Finally & Kids in the Corn
I finally have tomatoes! I had a late start because as you may recall my first batch of tomatoes died in a frost, so I had to re-start them. I am excited! These are the cherry/fireball tomatoes and I have them all over now.
My sons are also excited at the tomatoes as well as [...]
June Corn 2007
Some of my sweet corn! It is growing fast, just a few weeks ago it wasn’t even ankle high and now its middle of my calves. Next to the corn on one side is lettuce and the other black beans. The black bean pods are very hard, like soybeans, if you let them mature but [...]
Early June Garden 2007
This is from the first weekend in June. The garden is coming along ok even though the weather has been iffy. I only have a little spinach left. I’m going to keep these plants in until the weather gets too hot for them.
Here are some green beans and right in front some squash. I am [...]
