From the site: More than 270,000 organic farmers are taking on corporate agriculture giant Monsanto in a lawsuit filed March 30. Led by the Organic Seed Growers and Trade Association, the family farmers are fighting for the right to keep a portion of the world food supply organic—and preemptively protecting themselves from accusations of stealing genetically modified seeds [...]
We still had this one pumpkin lingering around from the fall, so today I cut it up and made pumpkin muffins and roasted the seeds. I was scared to make a pie, I was afraid I’d eat it all LOL!
Environmentalist and political activist Wangari Maathi passed away on 25th September, 2011, at the Nairobi Hospital, after a prolonged struggle with cancer. She was the first African woman, and the first environmentalist, to win the Nobel Peace prize. http://greenbeltmovement.org/index.php Wangari Maathai was the founder of the Green Belt Movement, an environmentalist, a civil society and [...]

Took down most of the balcony garden pots…took this pic in September! but aaack been going through some things, no time to post. But I’m back!
Our sunflowers finally popped! I will have to remember next year to plant them a little earlier. Luckily it’s still so hot here now. I really love sunflowers because not only are they pretty, the seeds are good to eat. And I save seeds for the next year too. We just got back from Cincinnati, [...]
Balcony Tomatoes! Eggplant! Bell Pepper! More gardening pics here: Garden 2010 How’s your garden going, what’s growing?
I have eggplant growing in the garden thanks to the new fence Brian made me for Mother’s Day! In prior years I could only grow it on the balcony; the deer and such would eat it up.
I was busy working in my creative studio when I glanced out the window and saw this deer. Feeling thankful for the garden fence Brian made me! I love seeing them but they can eat through a garden in no time at all.
Brian made me a fence for the garden! It’s very nice and keeps all the various fauna we have roaming the yard at night. I’m talking deer, raccoons, rabbits, possum, etc. This is a big help!
Don’t ask me how/why I let this bathroom sink get into such a state! Ultra nasty, I know. All I can say is I finally cleaned it. Here it is before: I cleaned it with water, baking soda, a little peppermint soap and an old toothbrush. That’s it! Took the grime right off and took [...]
I have such an abundance of mint! I make tea, sachets, mojitos, all sorts of things with it. I also like to pull the excess and put them in glass bottles for decoration. They look so pretty against the windows.
Growing potatoes in an old can that’s placed in the garden! The bottom of the can is rotted out, basically, so the potatoes are growing directly in the soil. As the leaves grow, I cover them up with dirt. By the end of the season I will have lots of potatoes!
I’ve just signed an urgent petition at Avaaz.org to protect whales. Read more below, or click this link to join me in signing: http://www.avaaz.org/en/whales_72hrs_left/98.php?CLICKTF —– From the site: Dear friends, Right now, the International Whaling Commission is meeting in Morocco for a final vote on a proposal that would legalize commercial whale hunting for the [...]
Garden shot progress; some garden stuff, honeydew melon, eggplant. corn, tomatoes.
This link is to a map application that shows you how large the 2010 BP oil disaster would be in your area. Check it out, it’s an eye-opener! Visualizing the Oil Spill
Pick it! OMG we have so much mint in the garden, it’s ridiculous. I picked a bunch and packed up for my tea. There are a lot of things you can do with mint, but step one is to pick it. It will grow back in abundance so no worries! LOL next up…more things with [...]
A raccoon decided to visit us. This is what happens when you leave the barbecue stuff out! LOL
After hacking up weeds and stuff we spread a thick layer of autumn leaves in the garden. Next will be a thick layer of compost, then dirt. blogged:
I have such a green thumb that even stuff I don’t want to grow, grows! LOL! These onions sprouted in my crisper.
I pulled lots of mint from the garden, going to transplant these to the side of the house in a bit.
One of the reasons I love plants so much is because they are an easy and economical way to add beauty to your home. Check out my current kitchen window ledge, filled with green growing things.
Seedlings happily growing along! peas, cabbage, spinach, lettuce, and more.
One of my pothos plants, it’s very long! This one is wide. I just love pothos plants, they are so easy to care for and grow so well.
Brian is building a big compost bin. We’ll have the current compost ground space for leaf and grass, yard stuff and use this one for kitchen scraps, paper, cardboard. We were having trouble with wild animals like raccoons plowing through the ground pile and spreading garbage everywhere.
Brian ruthlessly cut them back last fall, I can tell already that the blackberry bushes are going to be much more manageable this year. and we’ll still get enough to eat and to can. Yay!
