Handmade Denim Sink Skirt

Handmade Denim Sink Skirt

I just love denim! Last month we tore out the old broken dishwasher and cabinets, but have been so busy with work still not done with fixing the sink back up. It looks terrible! very ugly. So I decided to make a nice sink skirt to pretty things back up in the kitchen. It took [...]

I’m No Longer a Vegetarian

I decided recently to start eating meat again. Why? because I started craving it, something that has never happened in the past 24 years I was a vegetarian…or in my entire life for that matter. It started due to my health issues, I had a miscarriage and then the flu back-to-back. It was a lot [...]

Covering Old Bath Mat w/Denim

Covering Old Bath Mat w/Denim

I have this old dingy bath mat that I can’t brighten…tried washing several times. I thought about dying it but decided to just cover it with denim. I have lots of scraps I can use. This way I don’t have to throw it out and buy a new bathroom mat. It’s still functional, just ugly, [...]

Brian repaired the garage roof. It was really bad. He had to replace lots of old shingles. My in-laws came over and helped out quite a bit, as did Scott & Todd.

More Indoor Tomatoes

More Indoor Tomatoes

I had these in the house for a while before they bore fruit. I wonder how long it will take for them to ripen.

Bringing Nature Indoors

I cut some tomato branches and brought them indoors for decoration. I just love green growing things in my kitchen. I put them in some old wine glasses filled with water. Lovely

Saving Corn Seeds

Saving Corn Seeds

Drying out this corn cob and saving the seeds for next year. How do I dry it out? Just peel the husks and leave the cob out to open air indoors. Once dry, you can just pick the dried seeds off.

Stunted Sunflowers

Stunted Sunflowers

Although the sunflowers in the garden grew to size, the ones on the side of the house did not. I am not sure why…the ground there is very shallow. I’ll dig in some compost this year and let it rest next year.

Indoor Tomato Plants September 2009

Indoor Tomato Plants September 2009

Soothing Little Creek

Soothing Little Creek

One of the nice little creeks winding through Avon lake, Ohio. although the flash against the green is too hard, I do like how it captured the light on the water.

New Batch of Sourdough Starter

New Batch of Sourdough Starter

I started some new sourdough starter to make bread, rolls, pretzels, etc. My last starter I used up without adding to it, which is a shame because I had that starter for years. Sourdough starter is natural yeast. Why do I want to make and use it instead of just buying yeast? Well, commercial yeast [...]

Pretty Landscaping

Pretty Landscaping

Although I prefer a natural unsculpted look I really like the landscaping at the Bay Village, Oh library. so pretty!

How to Recycle Your Computer

How to Recycle Your Computer

Poster I saw at the Bay Village, OH library. Although Cuyahoga county makes a special effort for computer recycling in the month of August, you can recycle your old computers at any time. Here’s how:
1. Take off your personal info that is stored on the computer. This includes financial information, photos, address book/contact information, and [...]

Getting Feral Garden Under Control

S-bop helping me get the garden under control back in August. This part of the garden was so overrun with weeds I said forget it! and had S-bop mow it down. What was here was green beans, turnips, and yellow squash. We picked the remaining beans and squash and pulled the turnips, then mowed everything [...]

How to Make Mint Tea

How to Make Mint Tea

I grow mint in the garden, and have so much of it. If you know anything at all about mint, you know it grows like a weed. People often ask me, what do you do with all that mint? One thing I do is use it for tea. My older son and I have several [...]

Only Girls Being Born In Greenland Village

There was a study done on this village in greenland starting in 2004:
In certain villages in northern Greenland something is completely out of whack—only girls are being born. These reports from villages near the U.S. Air Force base in Thule are now being explored by scientists. But studies conducted a few years ago now coming [...]

Kitchen Window Plants August 2009

How my kitchen window looks this month. I love green growing things in my house. Some of them are bean plants I uprooted accidentally while weeding the garden, some are wild flowers I picked as buds that will blossom, and some are various plants growing around the house.
