Poster I saw at the Bay Village, OH library. Although Cuyahoga county makes a special effort for computer recycling in the month of August, you can recycle your old computers at any time. Here’s how:
1. Take off your personal info that is stored on the computer. This includes financial information, photos, address book/contact information, and education records such as papers you/your kids have written. You know, things of that sort. If, like us, you have an old computer that won’t even start up you may be puzzled as to how you can get your old info from it. One way is to take out the hard drive and add it to your new computer. Here’s how: How to take hard drive out of computer
2. Once your computer is wiped of all your information, call your local sold waste disposal department. This is handled either by city or county depending on where you live. In my state (Ohio) it is handled by county. If you are not sure, you can call your city hall. They will be able to tell you exactly who/where you should call.
3. When you call, find out drop-off dates and times or if they will pick up. Some smaller communities will actually pick up!
4. All you have to do now is drop your computer off at the recycling station or other drop-off point, or leave it out if they provide pick up. See? that wasn’t hard at all
