Beans In Jars

Beans In Jars March 2009

Some of my stored food/seeds. The pinto beans and split peas were bought at a store, the red beans I grew in the garden.

How do you store food? What are your food storage plans for this year? What are you planning to can, pickle, freeze, or just put away dry in jars? I’m down to a few bags of frozen garden veggies from last season, and these 3 jars of stored beans, except for a handful of black bean and soybean seeds for the garden. I have about 10 pounds of rice, 2 lbs pounds of flour, and 2-3ish pounds of sugar. Fresh out of homemade jam & pickles. I feel a little bereft… I would like to go from season to season with such staples on hand, but I’m always coming up short. anyway, here’s to better planning for this year!

My food storage plans/goals for 2009:
pickles
blackberry jam
strawberry jam
peach preserves
beans (pinto, black, navy, red, soy)
split peas
frozen spinach
frozen turnip greens
frozen kale
wheat & white flour
sugar & other baking stuff
rice
potatoes
I’m forgetting some things…
