We got hit with the tail wind from Hurricane Ike yesterday. We lost power late afternoon, and the power was out until early afternoon today. We watched the storm from the balcony until it got very bad and we had to go in. The wind speed got as high as 70mph, and it was very scary to see and hear large branches breaking off of trees. Some of the smaller trees actually bent over from the wind. and to think this was just a little bit of the full impact of the hurricane! Above are some of my balcony garden plants, I brought my peppers and cherry tomato plants in.

I brought my peppers and tomato plants in off the balcony but forgot all about my hanging tomato plants. This one survived with minimal damage!

The corn and sunflowers are totally trashed, but it was about that time to take down the corn plants anyway.

The tomato plants in the garden fared really well. A lot of the tomatoes got torn off due to wind but many did not (mostly unripe ones), which is total coolness.
