I’m the type people sneer at and say, What next, are you gonna go beat your clothes on the rocks rather than have a washing machine? I used to get offended by that and say of course not, but now I could actually see myself doing this. We’ve been without a working washing machine for a while now and I’ve long been a fan of line-drying, but basically in this particular example I think that often people overlook other solutions. Hand-washing clothes can be a huge chore but it’s not so bad if you simply don’t have a lot of clothes in the first place. That is one solution.

I love science, but I definitely think USA culture has an over-reliance on science including medicine. More on that later…

    I also get comments like that. I wonder why that particular example, the beating-your-clothes-on-the-rocks is such a popular example.
