Do You Flush When You Pee?

A big goal for our family is to reduce our water usage. This saves us money and it helps community resources and the environment. Think about it…if you flush every single time you pee you are using a whole tank of water for what is usually a half-cup of urine. Think about all that goes into getting that water to where you live. Wasteful? I think so. One way to reduce our water usage is to not flush when there is just pee. Did you know this is standard in many places, there is even a little saying about it:

If it’s yellow, let it mellow
If it’s brown, flush it down

My kids get a kick out of this one. Well, my sons do, my daughter thinks leaving even just pee is gross and refuses to participate. We’ve compromised by making one toilet the eco-friendly one that we only flush when there’s poop or blood, and the other one we all agreed to flush every time. It’s a start!

  1. I’ve been doing this in ATL for a minute

  2. You know I have heard that from several Atlanta people. How is the water situation going?
