So the boys wanted me to make cookies the other day. I was writing so I told them they had to wait. They said We don’t want to wait! Come on, mom, make us some cookies! I said No, later. They said Ok we’ll just make them ourselves. I said Ok, go for it. They got my recipe book and got started. They didn’t want me to help them at all, but I did look in on them and helped a little bit. They made sugar and chocolate cookies. They used my basic sugar cookie recipe and bootlegged it for the chocolate chip cookies, meaning they just added chips to the sugar cookie recipe. The cookies turned out great. Recipe below the pics, enjoy!
INGREDIENTS
3/4 cups butter, softened
1 1/2 cups brown sugar
1 large egg
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoons baking powder
(For chocolate chip cookies, 3/4 cups chocolate chips)
DIRECTIONS
1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract. In a separate bowl, mix the baking powder and flour together. Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix thoroughly.
2. Roll out the dough to about 1/2 inch thick on a floured surface. (For chocolate chip cookies, add chips at this point and mix thoroughly into dough). Cut the roll with a butter knife or flatten the roll out and cut with a cookie cutter. Put cookies on an ungreased cookie sheet or flat pan about 1/2 inch apart(For chocolate chip cookies, you can add a few more chips per cookie on the top of the cookie).
3. Bake 7 to 8 minutes. Cool for a few minutes then if you like your cookies warm, lightly and carefully lift off pan with a spatula or butter knife. Otherwise cool completely.
