June Corn 2007

Some of my sweet corn! It is growing fast, just a few weeks ago it wasn’t even ankle high and now its middle of my calves. Next to the corn on one side is lettuce and the other black beans. The black bean pods are very hard, like soybeans, if you let them mature but when you pick them when they are small they are so tender and tasty.

Oh yeah I also planted pop corn, it’s the corn on the far side, next to the lettuce. I have read that raccoons prefer popcorn to sweet corn so if you grow popcorn they will leave the sweet corn alone. I haven’t had a problem with the various fauna that come into our yard yet. We’ll see when the corn gets big.
